Noochies! Takes First Regulatory Steps to Launch a Cultivated Chicken Dog Product in the USA – vegconomist

Canada’s CULT Food Science (“CULT” or the “Company”) (CSE: CULT) (OTC: CULTF) (FRA: LN0) announces that its subsidiary, Further Foods, the company behind the pet food brand Noochies!, will submit a feeding trial protocol for a cultivated chicken ingredient to the FDA later this month.
Noochies!, a brand leveraging alternative proteins to avoid factory-farmed chicken and beef, has already introduced two unique products featuring a dried yeast protein developed by CULT Food Science to meet pets’ daily nutritional requirements: Freeze-Dried Dog and Cat Snacks. The brand has plans to formulate new Noochies! with cultivated chicken.

The feeding trials, necessary for regulatory approval as cultivated chicken is a new ingredient that pets have never consumed, are planned to commence in Q4 of this year. This is contingent on FDA approval of the protocol, which is expected within 45 days of submission.
CULT Food Science comments: “As far as the Company is aware, Further Foods is the only company in dialogue with the FDA about feeding trials for a cultivated chicken dog treat.”

Navigating the regulatory pathways
Dr. Sarah Dodd, a leading veterinary nutritionist, is working with Further Foods to ensure the feeding trials meet the FDA requirements.
As explained by the announcement, thirty healthy adult dogs of various breeds and ages will participate for 26 weeks, receiving different doses of cultivated chicken. The aim is to monitor multiple parameters (feed intake, hematology, serum biochemistry, urinalysis, weight, fecal analysis, and digestibility) to ensure the safety and efficacy of cultivated chicken for dogs.

This news follows an exciting week for cultivated meat, pet owners, and farmed animals.
Meatly’s cultivated chicken received clearance for sale in the UK, marking the country’s first-ever approval for a cultivated product. The first samples, presumably a cultivated chicken product for cats, are expected to hit shelves later this year.

Singapore’s UMAMI Bioworks announced a partnership with the US startup Friends & Family Pet Food Co. to launch cultivated fish cat treats in Singapore and the USA next year. The treats will contain high-quality cultivated fish proteins, high-value microalgae, and essential nutrients to promote a “Longevity Diet” for cats. Stay tuned for news about the much-expected approvals for cultivated fish.
