Media and PR Volunteer Role Description

Are you passionate about changing the way we treat animals? Do you want to help reduce damage to our environment? Do you want to get people to enjoy healthy vegan food that looks good and tastes great?

The Vegan Society makes veganism more accessible and an easily adopted approach by supporting individuals, policy and decision makers, caterers, manufacturers, health care professionals and the media.

Why do we need you?

Our Media and PR Officer is the first point of contact for the media and often undertakes high-profile media interviews. They work very closely with all departments in The Vegan Society to represent the society’s voice in the media. They are looking for a Media and PR Volunteer to support them with a variety of tasks.

What does the role involve?

Collating mentions and coverage of The Vegan Society in the media and updating a shared document with this information.

Researching potential stories and guests for our podcast, The Vegan Pod.

Podcast competitor analysis.

What training and support are available?

The Media and PR Officer will provide training on internal processes and will be available for short phone or video calls if required. The Senior Volunteering and Engagement Officer will conduct quarterly one-to-one meetings to ensure that your volunteering experience meets your expectations.

What skills would be useful in this role?

Good Microsoft Office competency.

Strong research skills.

An awareness and knowledge of vegan current affairs.

Confidence to communicate any training or support needs.

Ability to work independently.

An interest in media and PR.

What does my availability need to be?

For remote volunteering, we request that you are available for one–two hours. For the first month of volunteering, you will need to commit these hours between 9am and 5pm so that staff support is available. This will then be reviewed and, if you are comfortable, your hours can be completed more flexibly around your own schedule.

Who does this role report to?

You will report to the Media and PR Officer and the Volunteering and Engagement Officer.

Who can I contact to find out more?

Please apply through our website and do not send CVs over email. However, if you do have a question that isn’t covered in this role description, you can contact Kaya (Senior Volunteering and Engagement Officer) on [email protected], or you can call us on 0121 523 1730.
