A light show powered by 1,000 drones is scheduled to take place against the backdrop of the New York City skyline on the evenings of September 15 and 16, 2023. The event, which is being called “Look Up NYC,” is organized by Eat Differently, and directed by Academy Award-winning director Louie Psihoyos, renowned for his work on “The Cove” and CEO of Projecting Change.
Psihoyos stated, “Our creative teams have programmed a thousand drones to dance over the New York City skyline to form magical creatures that deliver messages on how to save the planet—you won’t want to miss this show.” Backed by its collaboration with an extensive list of sponsors and supporters, this artistic display seeks to educate and advocate for plant-based diets through a luminous aerial exhibition over the East River.
Messages in the sky
This presentation, orchestrated by Projecting Change with support from entities including Avaaz, The Ford Foundation, The Oceanic Preservation Society, and more, marks the commencement of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Ambition Summit, SDG Summit, and Climate Week. Last year, in recognition of World Environment Day and World Ocean’s Day, Projecting Change also projected an art display onto the east façade of the UN Secretariat Building in New York City, sounding the alarm of climate emergency.

Eat Differently aims to convey a significant message to world leaders—that transitioning to a plant-based diet can contribute to addressing specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action, responsible consumption and production, life on land, and life below water. Established this year, Eat Differently has already run multiple successful campaigns, including 30 outdoor billboards in San Diego this past July.
Each drone show will start at sunset and continue into the evenings, beginning by prompting viewers to scan a QR code in the sky, directing them to associated campaigns.
