Dietitian Reena Sharma from @the.vegandietitian on Instagram has reviewed our liquid supplement for mini-vegans. Read what she thinks of the product below. Spoiler: it’s what her own mini-vegan takes!
As a registered dietitian specialising in paediatric nutrition, I have had the opportunity to evaluate various dietary supplements designed for infants and toddlers. VEG 1 Baby and Toddler is a supplement developed by The Vegan Society for plant-based babies and toddlers and it’s the one I use for my own little vegan human for the following reasons.
Comprehensive Nutrient Profile
VEG 1 Baby and Toddler is well balanced and carefully formulated to address the specific nutritional needs of vegan infants and toddlers. The nutrients that can be more challenging to obtain from a vegan diet (especially for fussy eaters) are incorporated into this formulation and include vitamin B12, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, iodine and selenium.
It is important to note that the Estimated Average Requirement (EAR)/Reference Nutrient Intake (RNI)/Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) may not be met for all the nutrients in VEG 1 Baby and Toddler, so it is advisable to incorporate nourishing foods into your little one’s diet to meet their daily needs.
Easy to Administer
VEG 1 Baby and Toddler comes with a syringe (similar to other well-known medications for children, which little ones are probably familiar with by this stage), making it easy (well easier!) to administer.
Taste Good
VEG 1 Baby and Toddler comes in a tasty strawberry flavour, which most children tend to love (again, similar to other well-known medications for children) so it is very palatable.
Cost-effective
Prior to discovering VEG 1 Baby and Toddler, I was buying a variety of single supplements to help meet my vegan baby’s nutritional needs, which ended up being pretty expensive on a monthly basis. VEG 1 Baby and Toddler contains everything, all in one bottle that lasts five months. All I need in addition to this is some omega 3 (in the form of DHA + EPA) and a nourishing diet.
Peace of Mind
As a parent raising vegan children, ensuring that your child gets all the necessary nutrients can be a source of concern. VEG 1 Baby and Toddler offers peace of mind by addressing these concerns and helping you to meet your child’s nutritional needs with confidence.
It is essential to emphasise that you should consult with your GP, health visitor, dietitian or midwife before introducing any supplement into your child’s diet to ensure the supplement is appropriate for your child’s individual needs and dietary intake. And, just a reminder, a supplement exists to aid a diet, not replace it.
