Following the success of its Chick’n Nuggets, Spanish alt meat brand Heura is adding two new products — the Chick’n Fillet and Long Burger — to its plant-based chicken range.
The fillet is described as “a homemade-style breaded delight with a crunchy and extra juicy bite”, while the burger is said to be “packed with intense flavour and a hint of black pepper”. Both products have received a Nutriscore of A, containing healthy fats from olive oil and high-quality protein.
“We use innovation to create the most delicious plant-based versions of foods that people are already familiar with and love”
Developed by Heura’s R&D team, the TechRebels, the new products are said to be suitable for a range of dishes — from pita sandwiches to katsu curry. In a blind taste test on the streets of Barcelona, feedback was extremely positive, with many describing the plant-based chicken as “delicious” and emphasising that the texture is very similar to conventional chicken.
“Exponential growth”
At the beginning of the year, Heura reported that it had doubled its sales and expanded to 300% more retail outlets compared to the same period in 2021. Then, in July, the company reported that its turnover was up by a huge 93% YOY.
Heura told vegconomist that this “exponential growth” showed that the future would be plant-based. The company also conducted a crowdfunding campaign earlier this year, raising €4 million in just 12 hours.
“With the goal to accelerate the protein transition, we use innovation to create the most delicious plant-based versions of foods that people are already familiar with and love,” said Marc Coloma, co-founder and CEO of Heura Foods.
“Our research shows that the breaded segment represents almost 20% of the category, so introducing two new breaded SKUs to our portfolio of chicken is a great way to make sure people can withhold their favourite culinary traditions in ways that are better for their health, the planet and animals, whether sitting around the table for a family dinner or on-the-go at lunch.”
