Youth Engagement: NextGen Leaders Program
IMARC continued its commitment to nurturing future talent in the mining industry by hosting over 100 undergraduates and recent graduates for the NextGen Leaders Program. These young leaders engaged with seasoned professionals and explored potential careers in the mining and resources sector. Additionally, IMARC welcomed the NextGen Seniors group, comprising 150 Year 9 students and 30 Year 11 and 12 students, who gained firsthand exposure to the diverse opportunities within the mining industry. The program aligns with IMARC’s objective to foster a new generation of skilled professionals ready to innovate and lead in the sector.
Western Australia’s Role in Global Decarbonisation
The day began with a powerful opening address from The Hon. David Michael MLA, Minister for Mines and Petroleum of the Government of Western Australia. In his address, Minister Michael underscored Western Australia’s significant contributions to global decarbonisation efforts, particularly through critical minerals and sustainable practices. With an emphasis on technological advancements in responsible extraction, Minister Michael highlighted how Western Australia is uniquely positioned to support both national and global energy transitions. His talk resonated strongly with attendees, reflecting the urgency and importance of sustainable mining practices as global demand for minerals continues to grow.
PHNXX Wins METS Innovation Pitch Battle
Innovation took center stage as Joel Tay, CEO of PHNXX, emerged as the winner of the much-anticipated METS Innovation Pitch Battle. This competition spotlighted cutting-edge ideas and technologies designed to advance the mining, equipment, technology, and services (METS) sector. Tay’s innovative solutions, aimed at enhancing efficiency and safety in mining operations, impressed the judges and solidified his company’s reputation as a leader in mining innovation.
Upcoming Highlights: Industry Leaders and the IMARC Gala Dinner
As IMARC approaches its final days, attendees are looking forward to key presentations, including a session by Andrew Scott, Lead Principal of Think and Act Differently at BHP, who will discuss pioneering approaches in resource management and mining technologies. Scott, representing the Global Mining Guidelines Group (GMG) in Australia, brings his expertise in fostering transformative practices within BHP, one of the world’s leading resource companies.
Networking remains a central focus at IMARC, and the upcoming IMARC Gala Dinner on Thursday evening promises to be a memorable event. Taking place at the ICC Sydney Ballroom, the dinner will bring together industry leaders, providing an ideal atmosphere for collaboration and celebration of achievements in mining and METS. The Carly Champion Band, a standout from last year’s event, will return to entertain attendees with a setlist ranging from modern hits to classic rock, soul, and blues, offering the perfect cap to a day of high-profile discussions and knowledge sharing.
