Role Description
Are you passionate about changing the way we treat animals? Do you want to help reduce environmental damage? Do you want to inspire people to enjoy healthy vegan food that both looks good and tastes great?Â
The Vegan Society aims to make veganism more accessible. We help people to adopt a vegan lifestyle by supporting individuals, policy- and decision-makers, caterers, manufacturers, healthcare professionals and the media.Â
Why do we need you?Â

Our Education Officer is frequently tagged in these posts, but does not have the capacity to respond to each individual enquiry and direct them to the relevant resources.Â
What does the role involve?Â
The volunteer will use different social media platforms, but particularly Facebook, to respond to any online discussions about veganism and education. Their response to these discussions will be based on pre-written content and they will direct the person to the relevant Vegan Society resources and web pages.Â
What training and support is available?Â
Our Education Officer will provide the volunteer with all the information required and the pre-written responses. They will also be available to confer with the volunteer on how this information is being received and to re-draft the responses if required. The Volunteering Officer will be available for general support and to ensure that the volunteer has a positive experience in their role.Â
What skills would be useful in doing this role?Â
Friendly, confident and personable Enjoy spending time on Facebook and other social media platformsÂ
Happy to join a lot of vegan and parenting-related groups on FacebookÂ
A strong understanding of the aims, campaigns and tone of voice of The Vegan SocietyÂ
The ability to identify any issues of concern and be able to use their initiative and common sense to know which of these should be escalatedÂ
What does my availability need to be?Â
This is an ongoing role and we estimate that it will require about two hours every week. Volunteering can be done outside traditional working hours and in any time zone, although meetings and staff support will only be available between 9am and 5pm UK time. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of six months to make the best use of recruitment and induction time and to get the best out of their volunteering experience.Â
